Well I'm happy I won this auction with one bid. Could I get some help figuring out what model horns they are. I have an idea but I'm not sure. The bass cabs also look similar to the 816 model but not exact. I'm pretty excited to pick these up maybe Monday and get them home. forums

Homemade bass or rather mid bass cabinets

I think those are 1003B multis

I can't believe there was only one bid for tar filled 1003s or 288Cs, much less all the other associated goodies for only $500.......... Since the DIY bass bins are a much newer design than the components, I wonder what the 15" (not 13") 803As were originally loaded into.

The only thing I can think of is the ad had no reference to Altec or 288C so it did not turn up in a search. forums
I wondering how those cabinets will preform with the speakers as well as he says they are roughly 30x30x30.

My advice is scrap the bins. Empty A-7's are relatively easy to find.

GM is right, you stole the stuff. Horns alone could be worth twice what you paid.

Factor in the xovers and 803's you got it about 40 cents on the dollar. Good deal.

I have some A-7 bins in pretty nice shape. one has a 416-8A and the other has a 421 in it. Maybe I'll put the 803A's in them. I read before about making the port at the bottom of the A-7 cabs smaller for better low end. Can anyone help me out with more reading on that if I'm correct. Thanks.

I'm gonna give the cabs a listen first like you mentioned....heck you never know.

    thanks for the link.

I very excited. I have some great SET amps to try with these. In my old setup I was running Active Bi-Amp with 300B amps on 511 horns and SS amps on the bass bins.
